The Tell City Chair Company started in 1865 under the name Chair Makers' Union. Since that time the company has been through several changes, but one thing still remains the same, and that’s their quality. Tell City Chair Company is known for their craftsmanship and quality furniture. Adhering to strict standards for character mark shape and placement, the Tell City craftsman - many of whom are third and fourth generations - personally select each and every board. Natural burls, whorls, knots and a variety of grains are chosen and matched in much the same ways as the country craftsman of 200 years ago did. The TRAILS® Collection was first introduced in 1995 and was inspired by our American forefathers and exemplifies the long-standing tradition in furniture craftsmanship. The Trails® Collection has a warm rustic charm and elegance and sense of comfort. It is crafted from solid knotted cherry, oak, and rustic hickory; the collection consists of chairs, tables, beds, and other household pieces. With several different items from the Trails® Collection to choose from, in different finishes and fabrics, the TRAILS® Collection can blend easily with any home.

Design and Construction:

This sled table takes its inspiration from a New England work sled. Whether carrying supplies from the General Store or moving firewood to the house, it was the winter equivalent of a small wagon or wheelbarrow. This table features one-piece solid oak steam bent sled runners and side rails. Hand cast metal braces reinforce the side of the table while the graceful swan-head ornaments provide decorative whimsy to the hand cast sled runners.

Design and Construction: This console table takes its design from the apothecary chests and dressers used by early pharmacologists to store herbs, roots and other medicinal cures. Designed to present the appearance of a 24-drawer chest, this table actually has four drawers. Two single-depth drawers on the top row are above with two double-depth drawers on the bottom row. Finished front and back, this piece is ideally suited for use as a hall chest with a mirror or a console table behind a sofa. The lower shelf provides storage and decorative display options. Drawers have fully finished interiors with solid wood drawer sides and backs using English dovetail joinery. The drawers slide on a wooden center mounted drawer guide system.

Design and Construction: This solid rustic cherry bed features the silhouette of an evergreen tree in each of the solid one-piece steam bent banisters. This charming motif is taken from a design we’ve seen on doors and shutters of mountain cabins. Evoking the form of a sleigh bed, its bedrails bolt to the head and footboards producing a very rigid frame. Metal bed support brackets are adjustable, allowing the bed height to be set to your desire, despite the thickness of the bedding used. This design may also be purchased as a headboard only where space is a premium or the preference is without a footboard.
